Fiona Alexander qualified in 1993 with a Bsc. (Hons) in Speech Pathology from the University of Glasgow. Fiona's experience to date has been gained from working within the NHS.

Fiona now combines her NHS responsibilities with working as an independent Speech and Language Therapist.

Fiona has experience of assessing and treating children and young people with a wide range of commmunication difficulties is both clinic and education settings.

Fiona has a number of years experience of and is particularly interested in working with children and young people who have Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Fiona is also particularly interested in working with children and young people who have speech sound difficulties. Fiona has recently been involved in research with one of the local universities. This has involved the use of Electropalatography with children who have persistent, sometimes atypical speech sound difficulties. Electropalatography involves the use of a specially made plate (similar to a dental brace but with electrodes inserted into it) that shows the wearer where their tongue is moving in their mouth to produce certain sounds.

Fiona is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). Fiona is also registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and has an Enhanced Disclosure Check from the Criminal Records Bureau.
